4 miles on the treadmill. 3% grade for 3.25 then down to a 2% grade for last 3/4 of a mo. Ran at a 6.5 and 6.6 for 3.25, up to 7.3 for .25, 7.6 for next .25 then up to 8.1 for last quarter. Ran .15 cool down at 5 speed. Excited to get this longer run in! Was trying to decide if I was going to start in week 3 or 4 of my training plan. This run today made the decision! Week 4 it is!! I felt great running. Obviously due to my lack of training I was tired but was able to complete this and felt good. Ran it in 36:02. Just over 9 minute miles. Pleased with this. I want to run under 2 hours for my half marathon this summer. So this pace will just about put me there. I need to make sure I am pushing myself a little bit on time this year. I want to enjoy the running and not burn myself out but try a little bit harder to push myself and not just give up. 15 weeks until race time. I am feeling good right now!

3 miles in 26:58.  3% incline for first 2.25 then down to a 2% for the finish. Supposed to be a recovery run walk, but just felt good to go.  I keep thinking about my training from last year. I hope to be more committed to every day. I would frequently skip the recovery run and just rest. I hope that I can stay committed and do better on raceday. I love how a positive attitude of running makes my girls want to run and love to run on their pretend treadmills. So dang cute. Husband ran outside today. I am not tough enough. Haha.

3.5 miles on the treadmill today. Struggled wth my run today. It was a strength train and 3 mile run according to my training plan. I started beach body's 21 day fix today. I think it was the total body circuit, and then came home to do my run. I definitely need to start the day with my run as that is my actual priority.  I was just totally fatigued and slow for the run, didn't feel strong at any point today. 3.0 miles in 27:35. I only did 1.31 at 3% grade and had to finish out at 2%. I did run my second to last lap at 7.3 and last lap at an 8. But had to stop and rest before I could do my cool down. I decided to do a half mile cool down because I was hoping to work out some of the soreness I am anticipating for tomorrow. First cool down lap at a 3.7 walk and last lap at a 5 mph to work out some of the acid. Feeling committed to the program right now. Hope to keep it up!

XT day. 90 minutes of volleyball. 4:4. Better play this week. Felt more like a work out. It was good to help my legs work out a bit of the serious soreness I am feeling from yesterday. Definitely will be feeling this 21 day fix.

3 treadmill miles. Felt amazing today. Felt strong, improved my time a little bit and didn't hate every step! 26:10 for 3 miles at 3% incline. So grateful for the treadmill, outside weather was decent to run but just so much easier to let the girls play instead of pushing them in the stroller. :)

21 day fix of upper focus today. I did not use weights but still feel a little sore. Did feel energized today rather than just exhausted. Such a great feeling.

Woohoo!!! 5 miles on the treadmill. So excited!! Slower pace but felt great and honestly felt like I could keep going. Such a great feeling! Did take a 3 minute break right after the first mile at 3% incline and 6.5 mph. My daughter woke up, so I just got a pacifier and put her my bed and she went right back to sleep (thank heavens!!). Ran last 4 at 6.4 mph and 2% incline.  Put in a good push the last .5 mile. Finished in 46:30. .25 cool down to keep legs going. Sorry, but it was just a good running day. I know I am still not competitve endurance or speed wise, but still.... It just felt so dang good.

Also lower leg fix from 21 Day Fix  wow... My legs are feeling about like lead weights, but feeling pretty good about these one ton ers  haha

4 rough miles on the TM. Been fighting the demon for the last two days and haven't wanted to eat or move. Sheridan usually tries to run through his episodes. Being sedentary hasn't been working so decided to try to push trough the miles. I am not going to lie. They were ugly but got though it. 36:30 at 4% grade for first mile and 2% grade for last three.

3 treadmill miles today. Ugly ugly ugly ones. Still feeling a little under the weather but made it. Did take a one minute walk break after 15 minutes and it helped me make it through. Hoping to be able to take in a little more nutrition today, which I think will help too.  First mile a 2.5% incline and last two at 1% incline  feeling like a pansy on this note, but trying to run!

21 day fix: lower leg fix. Probably need to be sure to run prior to these workouts. I think it left me a little fatigued as well on top of everything else. But definitely feeling better and so glad to be moving!

Ditto Ryan. I figure I need a few ugly miles when I train so I can handle it if I have an ugly mile or two at a race. We all have good days & bad days. It's what you do with your bad days that make you a better runner, but listen to your body & if it needs a break it needs a break.

From Mel on Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 07:23:35 from 24.119.203.195

Thanks Christy. I know this sounds completely naive, but I hadn't thought of gutting out the ugly miles in a race too. Perfect training for those.

First lap 7.3, next at 7.6, 3rd at 7.9, and last started at 8.3 and pushed it up gradually to a good 9.3 for last tenth. Felt good. Half mile cool down of a R/w.  Finish time for run 63:02. Just over what I am hoping for race pace. It is such a slow pace compared to so many on this blog, slow compared to what I used to run... But faster then if I wasn't running at all. Hoping to start feeling better, eating better, and feeling the love!

Today was supposed to be a 4 mile threshold run. I started out earlier this morning doing. 7.1 mph pace at a 3% incline but was needed as a mom and had to stop. (Honestly best job ever!) so this afternoon got my chance to get back on the treadmill. Starting out I was thinking I would just shoot for three miles at a threshold pace and call it good since I had done the 1.5 earlier. At 2.5 miles was feeling good and strong so wanted to do the full 4. Did go down to a 2% incline at 2.5 miles. Started at a 7.1 pace and slowly just increased. Finished in 32:32! (8:08 pace). I also like the treadmill, it's a conveyor belt of torture. It's quite a bit easier to slack off outside than on the treadmill! You are really great. I still can't get myself to run over .5 incline on the treadmill. It makes me cry.

From Mel on Wed, Feb 04, 2015 at 09:38:27 from 24.119.203.195

That is funny Tara. I only do the incline to try to trick myself into thinking it will make it easier to run outside... I still have this mental wall block about running outside. I will get there.... I hope!

Threshold miles again today. Disappointed I wasn't quite as fast as last week. Finished at a 2% grade in 32:55. (8:14 ap). Felt good running. Started at a 6.7 and gradually increased. Ran last 200 at a 9.8 speed. Which is honestly faster than I have ever run. So that was a spotlight. Didn't increase pace quickly enough. Just was feeling too comfortable at a 7.3 for too long. That is okay. Will do better!!!👍

8 miles on the treadmill. Felt great. Talked to my husband (coach) about long run miles. I had read that a long run should be race pace plus 20 seconds per mile and asked his opinion. He says that he may start that way but he does atleast the last few miles at race pace to condition your legs to continue pushing through their fatigue. So that was my goal. I wanted to finish strong. I am shooting for 9 minute mile pace for race pace, so ran at 6.7 (8:57) for first 4.5 an 2% incline. Dropped my incline to 1.5% incline for next 1.5 miles. Then I started upping the pace a little. 7.0 for next mile. 7.3 for next half mile. 7.5 for next quarter. Then 8.5 for 200 yds and 9.0 for a 100 yds and finished last 100 at 9.8. Feeling good. (8:47 ap) good place to be sitting with 69 days until race day. I hope.

Ran with the local running group this morning. It was a cool but beautiful morning. Pushed the stroller and just felt good. Kind of wanted to go more but my Teeny was screaming! We are going to be reconditioning the girls to riding in the jogger. It was great to ride over on this valentines with my family to do an activity that we all love. Best way I can imagine starting a Valentine's off. Sheridan offered to run with us, but I wanted him to run his run too. So we started and finished together and both felt awesome.  I didn't wear a watch but felt about a 9 minute ap. and had a good push for last mile. not bad with the stroller. 🎉🏃🎉❤️❤️😬

Fastest time this season. Ran .3 cool down. My training plan only calls for 4 mile daily runs but I am thinking I am going to try to increase these to 5-6. Just to try to push my legs a little more and increase my endurance a bit. So technically Wednesday is supposed to be the tempo run and today was an easy run, I switched them. I was a little sore in my hips after Friday's workout so I was thinking I need to incorporate a little more downhill training into my workouts. Not a ton just some. So I did a more flat and downhill workout on the TM today. Also really tried to push my pace since I was running downhill and flat. First 3.32 miles at -1% elevation and 6.8-6.9 speed. Next 2 miles at 0 elevation and 7.3 speed. Last 1.18 at 1% incline and upped the speed. 7.7-8.5 for a mile then 9.3 for a 200 meter dash and 9.8 for last 150 meters. Feel great! I ran a couple of Half marathons last year and never felt ready or did very well. I hadn't trained properly. I am feeling much more confident this time.

Went to a group run at the local running store tonight with my family. Got to try a different brand of shoes ran in the Hoka Constant. Was not a fan for the first half of a mile. But by the end was loving them. Completely different pair of shoes from anything I have ever run in. Was fun to try new. I actually considered buying a pair until I saw the price. My husband did get a pair of the Hokas he trialed. Because it was sponsored we got a free gift with purchase. Unfortunately no shirts in Sheridans size, so I will be sporting a new shirt. Woot woot! I love free stuff.

Actual run was okay. I honestly don't know if it was wearing a different pair of shoes or just running trying to favor my dang leg. Did feel awesome just to run a little bit. Hopefully tomorrow will be good and can get out and run a little more. Nervous to be favoring and nursing an injury this close to the race. The race is on no matter what. 🏃👍

Great day for a run. Temp at the race start was 43 degrees, clear sky, and no wind. I haven't ever run with 4000 people before so it was kind of awesome to be corralled by time and then to see the stretch of people flowing from the starting gate.

This course was a seriously hilly course. I don't think the elevation chart did it justice. Thank heaven for race day endorphins. The scenery was really gorgeous. I found a few new places in SLC I would like to explore further. Started out with about an 8:20 pace for the first six miles and then started to lose it. I definitely needed more hill training for this race. I had set a goal to run under 2 hours and I met that goal. It was a great feeling. It made me evaluate my race and compare it to my training and make me see what I can do to improve so I set a new goal by the end of the season to run under a 1:50. I really think I can do it.

Need to work on: more outside runs. The treadmill is a safe zone for me, I tend to just jump on it mid-day instead of waking before my husband and getting out before he leaves. I need to run further. I had increased my weekday runs to 5-6 miles but still only ran 3-4 times per week. I need to run 4-6. I need more miles on my legs.

This race was very well put on. The organization, volunteers, aid stations, police support, post race party were all perfectly executed! I probably won't chose this race again simply because it was a tough course. Just when you thought you had finished the hill you turned the corner... Loved getting an early season race in.

Very solid race today, Mel! I think your training has been great leading into this race. You had some great runs that you should be proud of. I def think you can go sub 1:50. I think the key is training on and mimicking your goal race course, for sure. That's the great part of racing, you always walk away with something new so that you can tweak your future training. I think tweaking is a life long process and you're well on your way to some great things ahead. Congratulations to you!!

I have been running consistently lately in the 3-5 mile range. I decided I wanted to get back on the blog and keep up with my miles a little more. I wasn't sure I wanted to do another half marathon again after I had completed my goal of three last year. I have a hard time making the time for the longer runs. I did great running on the treadmill, but I seriously struggle with outside long runs. Go figure? 😳

But I think I like having that goal. That sense of working toward something. I am grateful I found some running buddies for my midweek  training runs. Awesome girls who make me feel better spiritually, emotionally, and obviously physically. Running is such an awesome sport for mind and body. So grateful to be physically able to participate and grateful to have a love for it.

Ready to be back in the blog. My running became really infrequent and irregular over the summer and I felt silly blogging but I think I am ready to recommit. Even if it is just to myself! 4.1 on the treadmill. Ran a preprogrammed run... Mostly decent of 0.5%. Time 35:08. Glad to be back.... But what happened to my pace!!!! Slow slow slow.

Fallen Heros 10K. Such a sad turnout for such a great race. Felt so good to be out running. Ran with a friend and honestly felt I could go farther. She is a good pacer, I tend to go out a little too fast and run out of steam. Love the fall weather.  Finish 53:59

I am running as a part of a challenge group. A group trying to run 1000 miles in the month of September. I am not going to lie, I didn't want to run today, and if I don't run in the morning I really struggle motivating myself to go. Thanks to the extra motivator after my husband left for work I jumped on the treadmill and ran 4. First 3 at 3% incline an last at 2%. Finished in 33:43. AP: 8:25. Starting to get back into the groove. Still a long way to go.

4 weak miles in the TM. Had some tummy issues (poor diet today) so had to take two stops.  Ran faster but it doesn't really count when the miles are split and not just continuous. At least I got in my miles.

Ran four in 33:28. AP 8:30. Felt really good afterwards so decided to do a speed mile. After .25 slow jog ran last .75 at a 7:00 pace. Last .25 at 6:40. Legs felt great today.

Had the opportunity to run in two different running groups today. Ran 3.2 with a friend early in the morning, and then 3.6 around the greenbelt with a friend later in the morning. Both were slow easy runs pushing the stroller. So grateful for good friends. Running seriously feels physically cleansing, but doing it with good friends with positive vibes is seriously soul mending.

Legs felt a little fatigued today so was finding it hard to find the motivation to go out and run. Finally decided to jump on the treadmill at 6 pm. Started out thinking I would run 3ish, finished a podcast at 2 miles and so I knew I couldn't stop in the middle of a podcast, so anticipated running another two.... It was a long one so went 5 miles. I felt a little heavy legged for the first 1.5, but picked up and ended strong  incline set at 3% for first four miles and then turned it down to 2% for last mile and really upped the speed  last mile was a 7:20  fast for me, and felt awesome!

Started out running and was interrupted because of my sweet baby who needed a little bit of love.  Only got 1.18 miles in. Had a crazy day and wasn't sure I would get anything else in. Mowed the lawn and got my babies to bed and went back to the old reliable TM. Was able to do another 4.32 to make an even 5.5. AP 8:20. Pretty happy with my week. Finding a new love in the way I have been running. It is awesome to run, just to run. Not thinking about a training plan, not thinking about weight loss, just thinking about running as much as I can. I love it. I may not fast, I may not be inspirational, but I am in love with running.
